New Commonwealth strategy to improve the health of the Upper Murrumbidgee River

The final Strategy to improve the health of the Upper Murrumbidgee was released in December 2024. The Strategy provides clarity on the direction for the Government's commitments and the package of programs to recover the river. Twenty submissions were made on the draft strategy by stakeholder groups, highlighting among a range of matters the need for improved flows for the river, the need to work with communities and First Nations groups, and the need for consideration of changes to flows in the context of the broader southern Murray-Darling system, including changes to downstream allocations. Submissions can be found here.
